Brake Calipers

What do Brake Calipers do for my Car?

Brake calipers are an essential part of a car's braking system, responsible for slowing and stopping the vehicle safely. The caliper works by squeezing the brake pads against the rotor, creating friction and slowing down the car.

When the brake pedal is pressed, brake fluid is sent to the calipers, activating a piston that pushes the pads against the rotor. The caliper itself is typically made of a sturdy material like aluminum or steel, and it is designed to withstand the high temperatures generated by the friction of the brake pads against the rotor.

What to Look for in Bad Brake Calipers

If you notice any signs of a failing brake caliper, it is important to have it replaced as soon as possible to ensure safe braking. Signs of a bad brake caliper can include uneven braking, squealing or grinding noises when braking, and a soft or spongy brake pedal. It is also important to have the calipers inspected regularly during routine maintenance, as they can become corroded or seized over time, causing brake failure.
